Happy Holidays!

Here's a little update from the Christmas weekend..
  • Had 4 days off- WOOT! WOOT!
  • Baked loads of cookies-Thank you Smitten Kitchen your oatmeal raisin cookies recipe was a hit!
  • Made Cake Pops- Didn't really turn out how I wanted. This adventure will be revisited
  • Lots of gift wrapping
  • Spent lots of money- but it was all worth it
  • Hubby loved his gifts
  • I will continue to stay away from malls and major shopping areas during holidays
  • Got sick as a dog- a fever and everything
  • Went to church- pray I didn't get anyone sick
  • Saw my family- hope I didn't get anyone sick
  • Played "Stock-ing- Trade"- Too much fun will have to blurb about the details later
  •  Made an awesome lasagna
  •  I still owe a few people cookies- don't worry I haven't forgotten
  • The house looks like Christmas hit it - will have to straighten up in the next few days before the new year ;)
  • Had and all around awesome holiday I love my King Jesus and all my friends and family that perpetuate all the good tingly feelings inside!
And the blurb of the day my gift to me..

I got my hair colored and rodded! The color came out beautiful by the rod set didn't quite make it. I was able to pull it off Day 1 and 2...
Day 2 of the rod set
But by Day 3 of the Rod Set the rod set was through!  There were straight pieces, pretty curled piece (both from rollers and my own textures), nappy pieces, frizzy pieces, Just too much going on for it to be considered and actual style
Better View of  the different textures in the Rod set from Day 2.
But  the main reason I think it didn't make it is because my hair was DRY! And oil alone was not bringing this doo back. It was un-salvageable, and believe me I tried, so I rinsed the random varieties of curls and textures away and sealed with a little Softee Herbal Gro Hair Oil (yup $1 grease) and put together this little diddy...

I like this little style. Its an everyday style that will last for a few days, but it can be dressed up with a pair of big earrings, flower accessory, and hot lip gloss. It looks really good with long hair too if you let the braid hang over the shoulder.

I'm really digging this fresh color so I'm anxious to try some new styles out! We'll see what I come up with.. But I'm open to suggestions!

Chunky Twist Out Style

Few pics of my chunky twist out for the office Christmas party this afternoon
CHUNKY!

And now to add accessories...

 Side view
So I am falling in love with this Stretchy Comb Accessory.  Mine is a cheapy $1 version because I wasn't sure I would like it let alone be able to use it. But it gives my little pin ups a little extra flair and it lays flat on my head  which makes it HARD HAT FRIENDLY! Very important to a "industrial"  hair fanatic like myself. Seems to be a great alternative to a ponytail as well.  Its easy to use, they come in many different colors and patterns, and it keeps my hair out of the way and in place. So I may pick up a few more while I'm out buy  stocking stuffers tonight! :)

I Believe I Can Fly!

Ok, so I don't really think I can fly, but when I made these wings for the Christmas play I was definitely soaring!

Aren't they awesome! I made these wings with two sheets of poster board, gift wrap tissue, Scotch tape, and tulle. I created other props for the Christmas play but  these wings were definitely the best. I know I know you are dying to know how these awesome wings were made. And I wouldn't leave my Blurbettes hanging so here goes....

Start out buy drawing and cutting out the wing shape from the poster board. Then use the tulle to tie the wings together and create straps to wear the wings. You now have your base.

To create the feathers cut 5-6 inch strips of layered tissue paper.  Next, take the strips and create a semi-scalloped edge(more pointy than round)  and cut vertical strips in between each scallop (being careful not to cut all the way through the strip, about 1.5 inch from the top).

Now starting at the bottom of the wing tape your strips of feathers on on top of the other until you have reached the top of your wing. The closer your strips are the fuller and fluffier your wings will be.

And now your ready to fly! (well at least be one awesome play angel)

This took probably about and hour and cost about $3. Much cheaper and more fun than buying wings!

Oh! Can't forget ...special thanks to my wing model Cryssy Jay.. An Angel  herself!

Rough Day

Today was a particularly rough day for me. I came back from a nice 3 day mini vaca, visiting my husbands grandmother, to go to work and have a dreaded case of the Mondays. I was feeling overwhelmed with projects and work in general, I had a funeral to attend, and a Doctors appointment at the end of the day. So all in all I needed Jesus to get through this day.
Work issues aside, I was extra emotional during this funeral. I mean most people are and although this person was a friend of the family we were not that close. However that did not stop the tears (and snot, Have Mercy, lol) from rolling down my face. I personally hate funerals. Even if it isn't some one you were close to it forces you to deal with the fact that one day your loved ones will be gone........ and you will have to be the one choosing caskets, flowers, hymns, and their final resting place. All as you  mourn the loss of said loved one. Even more daunting is that as Christians we are supposed to be accepting of this loss because if this person has lived their life as a Christian should their life goes back to God because it is His to begin with  or as the pastor put it today " She was ours on loan from God". But as I listened to the sermon  I couldn't help to think how I didn't want to give any of my people back, even though I know they aren't mine.  And how life is SOOOOO short. Once you've accomplished the basics in life (job, home, love, and family) your life is half over. So its much better to do what you enjoy and embrace the people God has loaned to you while you have them. Rather than complain and be unappreciative.

This also made me view my dreaded doctors appointment differently. I usually brace myself for defeat when going to see the endocrinologist. However even though my A1c is up from 7% to 8% and I've gained half the weight back I loss, I choose to take action rather than just wallow over  and let diabetes kick me in my other side. So I'm starting up my Zumba in the A.M.,  looking for a gym, and trying a new schedule with my meds.

Hopefully it all works out! Next post will be a little lighter.. any how Later blurbettes!

Cabbage!

Ok, so I know this is totally random.. But I love cabbage! Not so much how it tastes, but really how easy and affordable it is!  A head of cabbage is normally about $.15 a pound or $1 a head.  You can even get it at the farm stand for as little as 3/$1!  Its pretty versatile too. You can  add it to soups and stews, make one pot meals by adding meat and potatoes, or eat it alone. It's pretty good for you too.. here are some Cabbage Stats.
I like to prepare my cabbage like this:

    • Wash outside cabbage leaves and remove any discolored or wilted leaves
    •  Cut cabbage into wedges until core is exposed
    Cabbage Core
    • Cut wedges into fork sized pieces
    • Add cabbage to large pot or dutch oven
    • Add 1 Cup of water
    • Add 1/4 cup Olive Oil (Less if  you are making less cabbage)
    • Add 2 tbsp butter (optional, leave this out for a healthier dish)
    • Add Pinch of Dill/ Caraway Seeds/ Basil (as you can see this is where you can get a little creative)
    • Salt & Pepper to taste
    • Set flame to medium heat and cover
    • Stir to mix all of the seasonings and cabbagey deliciousness
    •   Let cook for 10-15 minutes  or until cabbage is tender and ENJOY!
This is just one very simple and quick way to add some veggies to your meal or a quick meal in itself!
Happy cooking Blurbettes!

Don't you hate....

Don't you hate when you forget things or when things just POP up. I had a totally "blonde" moment  today. After about a solid hour and a half talking to my carpenter on Wednesday about prices and materials to start  my big basement project (There will be a link to pictures here soon ;) ), I completely forgot that he was supposed to start the project today!  I mean seriously it is 1:30pm  and I JUST remembered! And to boot (funny I should chose that word)  my mind was pre-occupied with SHOPPING for boots and Christmas presents. But mostly boots *_*

Anyhow hopefully he can still start today or at least Monday and addition to my boot shopping I will swing buy the hardware store and pick up some materials. Maybe I'll find  some cool presents there.. hey you never know! But I'll keep you posted. Later blurbettes!
